The why – A quick story of the concept

A healthy lifestyle for all is a common wish and objective. It is a personal wish for most of us – that we can live in a way where our lifestyle can support a healthy life.

In taking our part in the #HealthyLifestyle4All initiative launched by the European Commission,   and our healthy lifestyle coalition came to the conclusion that we need a dynamic view on health and health-enhancing physical activity rather than a static one.

Life is full of surprises and the way to being healthy or becoming healthier encompasses multidimensional factors. It’s a journey. At   we believe this journey shall be about celebrating movement and balance.

Building on the famous and useful wheel of wellbeing, we also wanted to include an element that would capture our specificity as human beings and the fact that social change is a team sport.

That’s how we came up with the “MOVE to Wellbeing” concept.

It is a canvas to help us all embrace the two complementary dimensions needed for a healthy lifestyle, PERSONAL WELLBEING and ORGANISATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY. By working on these two dimensions we believe we can fulfill the wish for the future to be as good as or better than today.

We have named it The MOVE to Wellbeing and it is meant to be a tool to help you reflect, check and prioritise. To reflect on current reality. To check your current actions and to assist in choosing and prioritising.

The what – Key elements of the concept

The   MOVE to Wellbeing is articulating our vision of the key strategic elements and actionable steps that are needed to head towards a healthy lifestyle for all.

It provides a canvas to remind you of the special ingredients in your own #HealthyLifestyle4All recipe.

Let us guide you through the canvas, going from the inside to the outside of the wheels.

🔹 The two dimensions are:

  • the individual perspective, with wellbeing as an objective;
  • and the organisational perspective with sustainability as an objective.

🔹 The 5 key strategic elements

For each perspective, we have come up with 5 key strategic elements that form the spokes of the wheel. They echo and mirror each other at the individual and organisational levels. That’s the reason why there are matching colour codes on each wheel.

These strategic elements are the important pillars to lean on in our search for balance. They are the strategic elements, we need to have in mind to ensure our wellbeing as individual and our sustainability as organisation.

In the   MOVE to Wellbeing concept, those elements are exemplified by driving “verbs of action” and mascots. Those verbs vividly paint what we shall aim for in each element. They are the “driving goals” we strive for.

🔹 The tangible ingredients

But having goals is not enough. What’s needed is the roadmap to achieve it. This roadmap is made of tangible ingredients – that can be turned into actions. This is the final layer of our concept, appearing as an external ring.

For each of the 5 strategic elements, we then defined 4 to 5 “tangible ingredients”. These are the blue “handwritten” words popping up outside of the wheel.

These ingredients will ensure you reach the vision expressed by the verbs for each strategic element. In the   MOVE to Wellbeing concept, ingredients shall lead to activities as ‘intentional choices’/‘ways to act’ to reach equilibrium for each pillar and contribute to a #HeathyLifestyle4All – including yourself!

🔹 The shape of the tool

The two wheels can be used independently from each other.

But when brought together they unlock possibility and synergies to reach the vision of a #HeathyLifestyle4All. Brought together the wheels form a tool to move forward and come back to different purposes: Reflect. Check-in. Prioritise.

The   version of the MOVE to Wellbeing is depicted as a bike: with the personal wellbeing wheel providing the power and the organisational sustainability being the steering wheel.

We embraced and chose this representation as it is a visual reminder of the wisdom lesson from Albert Einstein: “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”

We know our way to a #HealthyLifestyle4All is a journey along which the search for equilibrium is key.

The how – make it your own

The MOVE to Wellbeing is not a one-size-fits-all. To unlock its power, it needs your input. You’ve got to work on it to make it your own.

Feel free to 🔗use the downloadable workable version🔗 and create your own MOVE to Wellbeing.

Based on our experience testing it with   stakeholders we would advise you to

🔹 Focus on your personal wellbeing => Fill in the outer ring by defining your own Ingredients. Then you can think of your “intentional choices, ways to act”. Activities can be what you are already doing OR what you would like to do!

🔹 Focus on organisational sustainability => Fill in the outer ring by defining your organisation own Ingredients. Then you can think of your organisation’s “intentional choices, ways to act”. Activities can be what you are already doing OR what would like to do!

🔹 Come up with your own shape => what does your tool to move forward look like? What story do you want to tell through it?

In working towards your own version, always remember that:

🔹 The MOVE to Wellbeing is meant to be a tool to become grounded and channel our energy into what really matters. You can picture it as a compass to help you reflect, check and prioritise on your journey to a #HealthyLifestyle4All.

🔹A healthy lifestyle is not achieved overnight; we have to be consistent. Vision => Goals => Action. The idea of wheels helps us to showcase how one step can lead to another and how all elements are important.
