Actionable learnings from the MOVE project – Guiding principles to develop and promote physical activity to socially disadvantaged groups

Regardless of the approach adopted, it is essential that the wishes and special needs of socially disadvantaged groups are taken into account. This is easier said than done.

The MOVE guiding principles could be one way to help you do so.

Developed as part of the    project conducted in 2014, these principles are the result of an in-depth analysis of selected good practices combined with insights from the literature review.

These guiding principles are formulated in “ABC” terms in order to make them easier to remember and in this way increase the likelihood of them being applied in practice. The principles build on eight factors of success that were identified as being crucial to the quality and effectiveness of the highly rated good practices initiatives: 1. Adapt rules, 2. Adopt a community based Approach, 3. Balance physical activity, culture and education, 4. Be flexible, 5. Build a multidisciplinary team, 6. Cultivate empowerment, 7. Carry out monitoring and evaluation, 8. Collaborate with stakeholders.

They form an evidence-based framework through which effective initiatives can be developed and implemented. In taking into account all 8 components, you will increase your chance of meeting the needs of the different target audiences.
