Topic 2: PLAN & DELIVER – Solutions that work
The “ABC for mental health” – a case study by
In this section, we present a case study of one of the good practices selected by the HEPA Expert Group in September 2022.
The practice in brief: Act-Belong-Commit or “ABC of Mental Health’ is an evidence-based mental health promotion campaign with the purpose of promoting the mental health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. While it originates from Western Australia, it is now being disseminated around the globe, and was adapted to the Danish context in 2016. DGI, Denmark’s umbrella for community sport associations, is a founding member of ISCA and is taking an active part in the Danish campaign.
Why you will be inspired? Act-Belong-Commit can be used by everyone, regardless of whether they’re struggling with a mental health problem or not.
How it is used by DGI? DGI works with ABC as a lens through which it assesses its own activities’ and broader community activities’ attention to the mental wellbeing and welcoming for participants, or potential participants. As a consultant, DGI aims to encourage community sport organisations to adopt a more welcoming and nurturing approach.
