The RESM Stakeholders system

Why mapping matters

Systematic stakeholder mapping helps organise people/orgs by:

  • Their relationship to RESM issues
  • Their capacity to affect outcomes
  • Their interests (aligned, opposed, persuadable)

The European sport landscape is not a single pyramid. It is an ecosystem with multiple layers of actors, each with different interests, different power, and different reasons to care (or not) about how sport is organised.

The RESM stakeholders ecosystem

The visual below shows five concentric circles, from the actors closest to your organisation to those furthest away. Click on each circle to explore who sits there, what they care about, and what the RESM research tells us about their role.

The five circles move from your closest allies to your most distant one . Most organisations stop at Circles 1 and 2. The RESM evidence shows that the real leverage often lies in Circles 3, 4 and 5 — where your message reaches people who do not yet know they care about your cause.
