Bio

Roman Abasy is a dedicated human rights advocate and community empowerment leader with a strong background in sports, social justice, and refugee support. He began his journey as an athlete, representing Afghanistan in Taekwondo and earning multiple international medals. These experiences instilled in him a deep sense of resilience, leadership, and a belief in the transformative power of community.

Driven by his passion for human rights, Roman founded the Labkhand Charity Foundation, which provides education, sports, and mental health support to Afghan women and girls, helping them overcome societal barriers and build better futures.

Due to threats related to his advocacy, Roman was forced to leave Afghanistan and resettle in Australia with the support of the International Olympic Committee and the Australian Olympic Committee. After relocating, he shifted his focus to supporting refugees and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities. He currently serves as a Youth Settlement Worker at CORE Community Services, where he assists young people in navigating their settlement journey. Additionally, Roman is a Regional Community Networker for Multicultural NSW, a Board Member of Floorball Australia, and a member of the Multicultural Advisory Board of Fairfield Council.

Fluent in Farsi, Pashto, Hindi, and English, Roman is committed to creating inclusive communities and ensuring marginalized groups have access to opportunities for growth and success.
