Following a successful pilot project, I founded an Organisation called “Integration in der Freizeit” in September 2022 in Lucerne, Switzerland. The aim is to find existing groups (know as “Vereine”) where immigrants (mainly refugees) can participate long term. The activities are extremely varied and include sports groups, music groups or even volunteering locally. This facilitates contact with local people and enables participants to improve their language skills. Finding suitable groups for each participant is done by a small group of volunteers. The volunteer meets the participant one-to-one and personally accompanies the participant the first time to the group. They then stay in touch with the participant and the Verein for up to one year to provide support and assistance, should any problems or issues arise. At the end of the year in July there is an evening where all participants and contact people from the “Vereine” come together and talk about their experiences.
