Throughout my life, there have been numerous instances where challenging situations have tested my leadership. One of the biggest challenges in my life during my school days was when I was given the role of a Captain of our school cricket team. A young team in their debut season looking to make a mark with I being the only senior. The initial matches were tough as the team was new. As a Captain, it was important to lead this young side for which I had to determine the strategy of the team. The most important aspect of leadership was man management. Since we had a new team, there was initially disharmony in my team which was also one of the reasons for our poor performance. As a leader, I also learnt to resolve conflict among team mates. My simple theory was to keep the run rate down and when I though they were desperate for runs, that’s when we hit them hard.
One of the most challenging and rewarding experiences which I faced was during the first 3 months of me joining Dream a Dream when one of my team members quit and then our CEO decided to take a sabbatical in for 6 months. We were struggling with final 6 months of cash flow in our bank account. The responsibility was given to me to lead the fundraising strategy and focus on corporate social responsibility. I devised a strategy to focus on companies which are aligned to our focus area and look for recommendations from people I know. Currently we have 24 months of cash flow.”.
Holding key sports accounts like FIFA & Generation Amazing has led to our delegation being part of FIFA Foundation festival & watching the Quarter Finals of FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia whereas our delegation to Lyon watched the semi finals & Finals of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 in France. Meeting delegations from different countries, different organisations speaking different languages who were there at Festival 19 in Lyon made me look at the big picture which will help me pursue my ambition of using sports as a tool for diplomacy as “Diplomacy is all about the big picture
